Pull to Lock: For only $7.00 per door, Pull to Lock is a simple device that is easy for anyone to use. It adheres magnetically to the inside edge of any steel door jamb and pivots on the bottom mounting screw of the latch plate. In the up and fully closed position, Pull to Lock covers the hole in the door’s latch plate blocking the latch bolt of the already locked door from entering the hole in the latch plate and locking the door securely.

The Problem: School room doors lock from the outside, the hall side, with a key. In order to lock and secure the door from inside the room, the teacher has to open the door wide exposing herself to the hall, insert her key, lock the latch, remove the key from the lock and close the door behind her. If the door happens to open INTO the hallway, she will have to open the door and actually go out into the hall to lock the door and go back into the room closing the door behind her.

To use during a lock-down situation: The teacher unlocks her door in the morning and opens it a few inches. Then she swings Pull to Lock up and toward the door frame to cover the hole in the latch plate and locks the door lock. Now the door can be opened and closed freely by students without the lock engaging securely, until security is desired. At the time of a lock-down, any student or the teacher has only to pull the exposed tab handle of Pull to Lock on the room side of the door which will release the door latch bolt to engage in the hole of the latch plate. The door is already locked so as soon as the Pull to Lock tab is pulled, the door is instantly secure. The teacher holds the key and the door can still be opened by the teacher or students in the room by merely turning the door knob or by the police in the hall by use of the Principal's pass key. The door lock stays in the locked configuration all day being opened and closed by students but the lock doesn’t engage until that is desired. You can spend much more but you can’t buy better. There is no need for additional keys or hardware.
