Magically Magnetic Additive versus Pre-mixed Liquid Paints
What is it?
Magnetic Paint is a fantastic new product. You’ve seen it advertised on TV. Perhaps you or your
friends have used it. Just apply it to any wall and magnets stick to the wall like it’s made of
steel. Mount picture frames, the kid’s art, seasonal decorations, just about anything with magnets.
No more nail and tack holes or unsightly tape marks. Now you can decorate magnetically in almost
any room of the home, office, school or nursery. Magnetic paint has no actual magnetic energy of
its own. Magnets are attracted to magnetic paint just like they are attracted to steel. That is
why it’s completely safe around magnetically sensitive items.
There are a few different brands of magnetic paint on the market. The pre-mixed liquid brands are
all made with latex paint as their base. Only Magically Magnetic brand is produced as a dry,
concentrated, powdered additive. It’s made to be mixed with either oil based or latex paint.
Because of its strength, ease of use and affordability, Magically Magnetic powdered additive
has proven to be the most popular brand, chosen most often by professional painters and homeowners
alike.
To mix or not to mix
Magically Magnetic brand is made fresh every time you use it because you mix it yourself, combining
our magnetic materials with ordinary paint. Ready-made, pre-mixed magnetic paints may sit around
for months on a store or warehouse shelf. With Magically Magnetic, you get fresh magnetic additive
in a dry, concentrated, super strong form. Simply stir the additive into a premium white
primer/sealer paint purchased locally from a store near you. Magically Magnetic dry additive mixes
so easily with paint, it takes only seconds to stir it to a usable consistency. It’s actually easier
to stir than the pre-mixed magnetic paints whose heavy magnetic materials tend to settle and harden
on the bottom of the can while in storage.
Extra costs?
With Magically Magnetic, you also avoid paying the additional, high, shipping costs associated
with readymade, pre-mixed, liquid paints that are categorized as hazardous materials and ship
at a much higher cost. The store passes this higher shipping cost to you. Magically Magnetic
Paint Additive is a highly concentrated, safe, dry additive. It’s non-hazardous, safe around
children, pets, computers and mailmen. We mention mailmen because our standard shipping method
is by US Priority Mail and you can’t do that with a hazardous material. Shipping by Priority Mail
means you get your order in three business days or less, anywhere in the country, special handling
included at no extra charge. We offer this speedy shipping method to any address in the contiguous
US. Faster shipping is available at a nominal additional charge, by special request.
Where can I get it?
Magically Magnetic Paint Additive comes in many different size kits. Whether it’s our
quart size,
half-gallon size,
full gallon size,
three gallon size,
four gallon size or
our painter’s special eight gallon size
, we’ve got the perfect size for you at a terrific low
price. Prices for Magically Magnetic Additive range from a super-low $15 for a quart size to as low
as $28.75 per gallon’s worth in our painter's eight gallon bulk pack. We’ve even got an industrial size
3,000-pound pallet pack for our industrial customers. Put simply, the more you buy, the less you pay
and we offer inexpensive shipping to any of the lower 48 states. The industrial
size 3,000-pound pallet packs do require additional shipping charges. The other guy's
premixed magnetic paints come in gallons only and are not discounted for bulk purchases.
Pre-mixed paint hazards
All magnetic paints make magnets stick to walls. They all contain the same materials that make magnets stick,
but because they are pre-mixed, liquid magnetic paints must contain additional liquid ingredients that Magically
Magnetic Dry Additive doesn’t need! Pre-mixed magnetic paints are made with a water-based latex paint as their
foundation. In order to mix magnetic materials containing iron into a water-based paint, wetting agents and oils
must be added as preservatives. Alcohols are added to facilitate proper blending of the oils with water. These
liquid preservatives allow the magnetic additives mixed with paint to sit for long periods of time in the can
without deteriorating, but they do come with certain drawbacks. All these added liquids dilute the paint mixture
making it difficult for the heavy magnetic additives to stay in suspension during application. For this reason,
it is necessary for the makers of pre-mixed magnetic paints to use very fine magnetic additive particles in their
paints. As the paint sits on store shelves, the heavy magnetic particles settle to the bottom of the can and form
a solid cake of magnetic sludge. This cake of hardened sediment must be scraped off the bottom and then stirred
vigorously to break up the pieces and beat them to a smooth consistency for painting. This aggressive mixing
must be done manually because a paint store mechanical mixer only shakes the can and can’t loosen the solidly caked material from the bottom.
Magically Magnetic uses only larger premium size particles in our additive. Larger particles provide
the strongest magnetic attraction and impart a slight texture to the wall, proof positive that our
larger particles are working to attract magnets with the power you need! We NEVER add wetting
agents; alcohol or oils and we don’t thin the paint in any way. Thinned premixed paints run, drip
and splatter more easily. Thinner premixed paint means having to apply more coats. More coats mean
more work, more paint and longer drying times. Thinner premixed paint means higher cost, and with
premixed magnetic paint, there is no price break for quantity.
Quality paint makes a difference
Because readymade pre-mixed magnetic paints are made with latex water-based paint, they require
longer drying times. Water-based latex paints may seem dry to the touch in an hour or so, but
complete drying takes up to twenty-four hours per coat. Painting a second or third coat before
the previous coat is completely dry risks permanently trapping water in the paint. For best
results, we have always advised the use of oil based primer/sealer paints to be mixed with
Magically Magnetic additive. Oil based paints dry completely much more quickly and pose no
danger of trapped moisture. They contain no water. When using a latex based magnetic paint,
always allow 24 hours of drying time between coats.
Higher concentration
Pre-mixed magnetic paints have less of the essential magnetic materials that make magnets stick. Magically Magnetic
uses an incredible four to one ratio of paint to magnetic additive. With Magically Magnetic, you get a full, quart
container of dry, concentrated magnetic additive weighing eight pounds, to mix with a single gallon of ordinary
paint, or two pounds of additive to mix with a single quart of paint. This volume of additional material increases
the weight and total volume of the resulting magnetic paint. When you mix a quart container of Magically Magnetic
additive into a gallon of paint, you’ll need a mixing container that is larger than the gallon paint can. Pour the
whole gallon of paint into the mixing container. Then while stirring the paint, pour in the Magically Magnetic
additive. It’s easy. Just thirty seconds of stirring is all it takes.
What color is it?
Pre-mixed liquid magnetic paints are an ugly gray in color, like automobile primer. Magically Magnetic
Paint Additive doesn’t change the color of the paint it is mixed with. Use a white primer/sealer paint
to mix with Magically Magnetic additive and it will stay white, covering easily with any color latex
finish paint.
Is it expensive?
Pre-mixed magnetic paints are always more expensive. You are paying for added preservatives,
wetting agents, alcohols and oils as well as mixing time and a substantial profit margin. Every
time the paint changes hands-manufacturer to reps, reps to distributors, distributors to stores
and from the store to you, the price goes up. They’re trapped by their own distribution system.
The manufacturer can’t sell direct to you for less than the stores. When you purchase Magically
Magnetic Paint Additive, you get the strongest magnetic attraction and the easiest paint to use
at the lowest possible price because you’re buying direct from the manufacturer, no middlemen
to jack up the price and no high hazardous material shipping charges.
When does it make sense to use a premixed magnetic paint? Any time you want to paint an area 24-inches square or
smaller. That’s it! Anything larger and you’re just throwing your money away if your not using Magically Magnetic
paint additive and your paint.
